Indian network Big FM has announced the launch of the country’s first audio and video series on radio as well as digital.

The theme-based series called ‘Duck se Dude’ will consist of nine original webisodes which will air on weekdays on Big Originals throughout the upcoming cricket season.

The series is the story of an introvert boy (Manjeet) who doesn’t have any friends and lacks the courage to speak to the girl he loves.

He decides to seek help from the host of a late-night radio show, who offers the game of cricket as a solution for all his problems and transforms him from being a ‘duck’ to a ‘dude’.

On the soon to be launched web series, Manish Karnatak, Head, Thwink BIG says: "Cricket has become a part and parcel of our lives today and it is easy to strike a conversation and connect with a fellow cricketing enthusiast, even if she / he is a stranger. We used this insight for Duck Se Dude where although we are talking about real issues that typically a teenager may face, we've given it a 'slice of life' treatment where cricket is the backdrop."

India Radio Forum (IRF), to be held on May 18 at Gurugram, Delhi NCR has announced ‘Local Brain’ as its theme for this year.

The annual event brings together radio and media industry players to discuss and learn on how to revitalize and create a significant impact in listenership, discuss new developments, strategize on revenue and research options.

The theme of the year intends to capture the country's local essence and its various creative forms. The direction of the Forum this year would be creative inspiration and ideas and what's next for Radio.

The day will also witness the popular Excellence in Radio Awards (ERA) to celebrate and award the very best of Indian radio, honouring outstanding programming, on-air personalities, marketing & promotions and creativity within the industry.

Rajika Mittra, Special Projects Director said: "Local Brain - is a very interesting theme. The essence of this powerful medium lends its uniqueness and projects new creativity and ideas in the Radio industry. Radio is the most engaging medium with a lot more potential to explore."

Nisha Narayanan, COO of Red FM Network believes: "The present edition's theme is 'Local Brain' and is based on capturing the local essence of India in various creative forms. The power of vernacular, the power of local content is clearly the way forward. The strength lies in localization and regional flavours. As I often say, ours is a fight with technology not between FM players, hence innovation and disruptive content will continue to be the key focus areas. Going forward, aim should be integrating radio effectively across all media plans without pulling down the power of any other mediums."

B.Surendar Chief Operating Officer of Red FM network is bullish in his views: "With India's growth story spreading beyond metros and mini metros now, the objective of radio industry should be to re-imagine and re-draw boundaries of creativity, content and its overall business model. Not surprisingly, IRF has chosen 'Local Brain' as the theme for this year's event."

‘Get some Sun’ - the longest running travel show on Indian Radio entered its fifth year on Radio One.

The show has had Bollywood star Ranveer Singh as host through the years and he gives travel advice in the seven cities that Radio One operates and encourages people to ‘chase the sun’ all over the world.

Hosts also enable special ‘adventure’ stories of local destinations that listeners have visited.

The previous editions of the show through the last 5 years have enabled listener engagement not only to fabulous destinations like all the ‘global wonders of the world’ but also partnered with tourism boards of many countries to help Indians better understand global destinations they must visit as part of their global travel calendar.

Anil Machado, Chief Content officer at 94.3 Radio One said:  “We realized the opportunity five years ago to engage our tribe of upscale listeners with superlative content that interfaces with their real lives. The number of cars with line-fit DRM Digital Radio enabled radio sets on the Indian roads is quickly nearing a million.

All India Radio, the public broadcaster, has engaged in the past few years in the largest radio digitisation roll-out in the world.  With 39 powerful DRM transmitters installed and operational today, AIR is already covering a large part of the subcontinent and an estimated 600 million people with digital DRM radio services.

Digital radio is driven by listening in cars and is paramount for the success of India’s digital roll-out programme. The receiver industry is already on board and has invested millions of dollars in the development of DRM digital radio capable receivers and the roll-out of DRM equipped cars is growing quickly by the month.

In 2017, this number was estimated to be about 500,000 cars, while as of the beginning of May 2018 the volume has already passed 800,000.

Listeners benefit particularly from India’s car industry’s joint effort to provide the in-car DRM functionality as a line-fit option for new models without any extra cost for the consumers.

The increase has been spectacular in comparison with similar rollouts in several other established markets in the world.
